Job Summary:

TheMaterials Specialistisresponsible for the business unit's capacity planning, material planning, and production planning and scheduling with the objective to deliver laboratory testingservices and customer deliverablesin a timely and efficient manner. This role serves as a Lab Operations Manager over production planning and supply chain.

The Materials Specialist will also be responsible for creating and maintaining weekly scheduling metrics that lead to forecasting Production headcount, as well as resource sharing and optimization.

Education and experience requirements:

Bachelor's degree and relevant experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering or relevant discipline from an accredited university
  • Certification or experience in Six Sigma and Lean (e.g. Black Belt accreditation) preferred
    • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing including leading Kaizen events
    • Demonstrated experience with Six Sigma including project completion

Competencies of this position

  • Experience as a Master Scheduler/Planner in a Laboratory, Production and/or Manufacturing Environment
  • Expertise in Production Planning and Supply Chain
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Proficient in data analysis, interpretation, and development of meaningful KPI reports
  • Proficiency with use of computer and software applications including Tableau, Minitab, Microsoft Project, Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Essential Duties:

  • Effectively review production capacity data and mitigate and/or expedite schedule changes as needed
  • Optimize resourcesper Laboratory Sectionto best meet customer timelines
  • Alert Operations Management of forecasted change in labor requirements
  • Coordinate material/product release based on timelines
  • Analyze production staffing, equipment, and room requirements to determine the optimum use and sequence of production
  • Work across departments to ensure that materials and documentation are on plan to meet Operations schedule in advance
  • Project Management
    • Projects are an essential function of the OpEx role; managing projects as either a Project Owner or an adjunct advisor to the project
    • Create and execute project plans in coordination with the PMO group to meet company requirements and objectives. As issues arise, communicate risks and mitigations
    • Identify resource needs and assign individual responsibilities on projects and work with area managers to secure and schedule project resources
    • Facilitate project meetings with clear responsibilities and timelines
    • Present and submit capital expense approval requests for management review
  • Identify and Implement Operational Improvements
    • Find opportunities for cost savings or avoidance and efficiency improvements
    • Understand key performance indicators, including utilization metrics
    • Calculate return on investment and understand company P&L/EBITDA w/ Finance
    • Evaluate automation opportunities to increase throughput and reduce cycle times

Regulatory Compliance

  • Know and follow applicable regulatory requirements (GMP, GLP, ISO, etc.).
  • Know and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Complete required training on time.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. Typically works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, keyboards, computer mouse, telephones, photocopiers, projectors, and file cabinets. This position may also include laboratory, warehouse, or clean-room environment and applicable PPE. May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Travel requirements.

Occasional travel during the business day. Some out-of-the area and overnight travel may be expected. May be required to attend trade shows, seminars and conferences in addition to sales travel.

Physical requirements:

Must be able to stand/walk for 10% of the day and 90% of the day sitting at a desk or on the computer.

Must be able to occasionally lift a maximum of 45lbs
